How to Take Care of a Pet Parrot: Everything You Need to Know

Parrots are among the most intelligent and colorful birds you can have as a companion. Their ability to mimic sounds and form emotional bonds with their owners makes them truly special.
But owning a parrot is not as simple as keeping it in a cage and feeding it seeds. Parrots need daily interaction, a balanced diet, mental stimulation, and lots of attention.

A healthy parrot’s diet should include a mix of high-quality pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables such as apples, carrots, spinach, and bananas. Avoid giving them chocolate, avocado, or caffeine — these can be toxic to birds.
Parrots also love playing. Provide wooden toys, ropes, and puzzle feeders to keep their brains active. If they get bored, they may start plucking their feathers or screaming excessively.

Parrots are social creatures — they need communication. Talk to your parrot daily, let it out of the cage (in a safe space), and allow it to explore.
Keep in mind that parrots can live 30–50 years, depending on the species. It’s a long-term commitment — more like raising a child than keeping a pet.

When cared for with love, parrots can become affectionate, loyal companions who bring color, laughter, and life into your home.
