Employees of the Khashuri District Division of the Shida Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested N.G., born in 1979 and previously convicted of various serious crimes, on charges of theft.
According to the MIA, the investigation established that the accused illegally took money from a donation box at one of the monasteries located in the town of Surami, stole church items, and then fled the scene.
“Within the framework of the ongoing investigation, it has also been established that the same monastery had been robbed by the accused in the past,” the statement says.
As a result of operational measures and investigative actions, law enforcement officers arrested N.G. shortly after the incident, while he was still hot on the trail.
